Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Kybella?
Kybella is a medication that is used to treat excessive fat under the chin. It is very effective for the treatment of the unsightly double chin. It works by disrupting the fat cell membrane, which leads to the loss of fat in the treated areas.
2. What areas can be treated with Kybella?
At the present time, Kybella is only approved for treatment of the double chin. With time, there may be other indications for Kybella and other areas where it can be used safely.
3. Are there any off-label uses for Kybella? If so, are they safe?
At this time, there are no off-label uses. It is likely that there will be in the future as more experience with Kybella is gained.
4. Kybella vs. liposuction for double chin? Which would you recommend and what is the difference?
The two treatments could not be more different. Kybella is a procedure performed with a needle in which Kybella is injected into the fat to break the fat down. This treatment has no downtime and is non-invasive. Liposuction is an invasive procedure with significant bruising and downtime and a requirement for anesthesia. Liposuction may be needed if there is a severe excess of fat in the double chin. However, many patients with only a mild to moderate amount of excess fat in the double chin should be able to be treated with Kybella in a completely non-invasive manner.
5. What is recovery like for Kybella injections?
Patients may experience a stinging sensation for 10-15 minutes immediately after treatment. The most common side effects after Kybella injection are mild swelling and bruising. Patients may develop some redness and discomfort after the treatment session, which can last for a few days.
6. How long do results from Kybella injections last?
Results from Kybella should be permanent because once the fat cells in the treated areas disappear, they do not come back.
7. What do I do if I gain weight after using Kybella?
In the clinical trials leading to FDA approval, patients who received Kybella and then gained weight did not show return of their double chin. Therefore, there is nothing one need do if weight is gained after using Kybella.
8. Are Kybella injections painful?
Kybella treatments are not painful. Patients can have their double chins numbed with numbing cream prior to treatment to reduce any discomfort.
9. How long is a Kybella treatment?
Kybella treatments typically require about 15-20 minutes.
10. How many Kybella treatments do I need to see results?
Most patients will see a response after two treatments but some patients will require more treatments depending on the amount of fat that is present.
Before and Afters
Belinda Mori is one of the best in her field. I have been to several Med Spa's in Albuquerque having lived here all my life and found that Belinda is by far one of the most knowledgeable about skin. I love the fact that she does not try to sell you something you do not need as well as caters to your specific needs. I have had her chemical peel (one of the best I've ever had) as well as the Mixto C02 MicroResurfacing. I am only on day 4 from having the refurfacing procedure done and my skin already looks brand new!! I LOVE IT! I highly recommend this MedSpa.
Belinda is very knowledgeable. In the couple of times I have went to her for microdermabrasion's.They went well and I can say my face has smoothed down. Loved that she took the extra step and cleared some blemishes out for me with an extractor.(I think that's what its called). I'll be seeing you soon Belinda! Thank you for everything!
Love this place! Vanessa does a very nice job and I am extremely pleased with my results. I look forward to my future appointment.
